Crossroads’ Season Ends In 8-7 Defeat:

A memorable Crossroads baseball season was climaxed by a victory over the division’s No. 1-seeded team and a narrow playoff loss to its next opponent three days later.

First, the team co-coached by Matt Amido and Pat Armstrong upset top-seeded Bloomington Christian, 15-7 on Tuesday, May 26. Traveling again, Crossroads lost to Santa Paula, 8-7 on Friday. Four teams now remain in the Division 6 playoffs, including Delphic League champion Windward.

Crossroads was the Delphic League’s second place team, a significant improvement over the last two years when the Roadrunners had losing records.

“We played probably our best game of the season against Bloomington Christian,” said Armstrong. “Caleb Hodge pitched well, with help from Max Robinson. Josh Flyer got some big hits and Andres Leyva had an important double.”

Santa Paula had been a Division 4 team in recent years, so it presented an interesting challenge for Crossroads. But the Roadrunners competed strongly.

Crossroads gained confidence against higher division opponents when it defeated Hawthorne in a non-league game. Hawthorne made the Division 3 playoffs out of the Ocean League.
