SMC Men Win Consolation Championship:

After losing to highly-regarded Irvine Valley earlier this season the Santa Monica College mens’ basketball team was looking forward to a rematch, and that was promised in the first round of the Irvine Valley Tournament.

The Corsairs lost again, 61-56, but went on to win the tournament’s consolation bracket championship by defeating Pasadena, 77-60 and Glendale, 70-62.

SMC has a 7-3 record. Besides losing twice to Irvine Valley the team’s only other loss was to Santa Ana.

SMC will begin its Western State Conference schedule in January. A highlight will be a Jan. 16 home game against West Los Angeles College on the night former SMC coach John McMullen will be inducted into the school’s sports Hall Of Fame.

This SMC team is off to the best start of any Corsair mens’ squad since McMullen retired five years ago.
