Little League Playoffs Begin Saturday:

The 2010 SMLL regular season came to a close this week and playoff action in Majors and AAA Minors begins May 22 as the 12 teams in each division battle it out for the City Championship.

In the Majors West the top-seeded Mets and White Sox (#2) earned first-round byes. At press time, the pairings for Saturday’s first round playoff games had not been determined, the #3 seeded Cardinals will face either the Cubs or Reds, and the Indians (#4) will face either the Cubs or Reds.

The A’s from the Majors East posted SMLL’s best record at 15-1. The A’s and Dodgers (#2) earned first round byes in the playoffs. East playoffs games begin on Sunday with the Yankees (#3) taking on the Angels (#6) and the Giants playing host to the Red Sox in the 4-5 match up.

AAA Minors playoff action begins on Saturday in the SMLL West. The Cubs (#1) and Cardinals (#2) earned first round byes. In the first game, the Mets (#3) host the White Sox (#6), and the Reds (#4) face the Indians (#5) in the late game.

In AAA Minors East, the #1 seed Giants posted the season’s best record at 14-2, earning a bye along with the #2 seeded A’s. In first round games on Sunday, the Angels (#3) host the Red Sox (#6), and the Yankees (#4) host the Dodgers (#5).

The City Championship game between the SMLL East and West playoff champions will take place on Saturday, June 5 at Memorial Park. The AAA Minors title game begins at 10 a.m. and the Majors championship begins at 1 p.m. The game will be televised by CityTV (tape-delay). The SMLL Opening Day carnival, which was postponed due to rain, will also be held on June 5 at Memorial Park.
