Rid Your Home of Xenoestrogens: Dr. MAO’s WELLNESS CENTRAL

You may be wondering what a Xenoestrogen is and why it is harmful. Xeno means foreign. So “xenoestrogens” means “foreign estrogens”. Some of the 100,000 chemicals registered for use in the world have hormonal effects in addition to toxic and carcinogenic effects. With environmental factors causing ever more damage to our wellbeing, it is important to know what to look out for and avoid.

Xenoestrogens are present just about everywhere, from the pesticides used on vegetables and hormones injected into meats and poultry, to BPAs leaching from plastic water bottles and dioxins from bleached paper products. Xenoestrogens are chemical compounds that mimic the properties of estrogen and can potentially elevate the level of the hormone in the body and affect a cascade of functions.

The most alarming result of excess estrogen is the rising rates of estrogen-receptors and positive breast cancer in women. You can avoid these chemical compounds if you buy organic foods and use glass and natural paper products. In addition, it is important to undergo periodic detoxification treatments with special dietary and herbal regimens to lower your body’s toxic load.

Three Ways to Avoid Xeneostrogens

One of the most common places to find excess chemicals like Xenoestrogens is in your mattress. An organic mattress is essential to keep toxins out and away from your body. A typical mattress is stuffed with polyurethane foam and other materials that are treated with flame-retardants, and covered with materials treated with water, stain, and wrinkle resistant chemicals like formaldehyde. All of these chemicals can not only contribute to indoor air pollution but think of what you are inhaling every night.

The best mattress to sleep on is one made with organic materials and not treated with chemicals. I personally sleep on a Vivetique mattress. Vivetique makes all of their beds with organic pure grown wool and cotton. No chemicals are added during the process of making the beds and they are naturally fire-retardant and meet all California State Requirements. Having my wife and kids sleep on organic mattresses gives me the peace of mind knowing that we are not exposed to toxic chemicals while we sleep. For more information please contact the Wellness Store in Santa Monica.

Drinking filtered water out of glass containers is also very important for your wellness. Water kept in plastic bottles can also contain high levels of Xenoestrogens and other harmful chemicals that can seep into the water you are drinking. Food is also best stored in glass containers. A good thing to remember is that when plastic becomes warm or hot the chemicals can seep into your food more easily. Reheat your leftovers in ceramic dishes or in glass storage containers.

Always eat organic and pesticide-free foods. Many processed foods contain preservatives are not good for you and some that are xenoestrogens. Avoid products that contain BHA (butylated hydroxyanisole), as it is a xenoestrogen. Consider switching to organic meats. Many of the hormones used to help turkeys, pigs, chickens, and cows grow bigger, faster and produce more meat include xenoestrogens. Organic meat does not.

Once you have relieved your life of dangerous toxins your health will be better and you too can enjoy living to be 100 or beyond.

May you Live Long, Live Strong, and Live Happy!
