SANTA MONICA – Coach Sean Brookes has said all season his baseball team relies on pitching and defense.
On Friday, he called his hitting (seven runs on 11 hits, including two home runs) “a bonus.”
The No. 2 New Roads Jaguars won 7-4 over the No. 3 Rolling Hills Prep Huskies to take the Coastal League championship on Friday.
Anthony Carrillo and Blaise Dolcemaschio both went 3-4 from the plate. Dolcemaschio had four RBI and a home run and Quinn Barbini added a solo home run.
Carrillo also pitched a complete game, giving up eight hits and four earned runs while striking out five.
The CIF will announce the pairings for the tournament on Monday, and New Roads, with the league championship should host their first round game.
