Youth will contend this Friday, July 15 at the Santa Monica Pier for a laid-back surf competition hosted by Hurley. Local skate and surf shop ZJ Boarding House will participate in the local event that has been touring all over the country.
The 18-stop tour, which started in Puerto Rico on June 11 and will wrap up at Camp Pendleton in San Diego on July 16, will reach hundreds of young surfers in a span of more than 10,000 miles. Children 16 and under compete in a “no-pressure” event. Participants also spend time with the Hurley team and test-drive their boards.
“We’ve had so much fun… that we expanded it this year,” said Pat O’Connell, Hurley’s VP of Sports Marketing, “We’re going to Texas. We’re going to the Great Lakes. We can’t wait to spread the good times to some new zones.”
Hurley surf pros Evan Geiselman, Conner Coffin, Dane Zaun and Timmy Curran will mingle on the sand. Participants will watch a post-event slideshow of the day’s highlights and be slated to win prizes and giveaways. ZJ Boarding House is teaming up to have an after party for autographs and a customization truck for making personalized boardshorts and tees.
Entry to the Rip My Shred Stick event will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Sign-up is at lifeguard tower 26 and is free of charge. Go to ZJ Boarding House to sign up, or visit hurley.com/rmss.
