Residents and visitors of Santa Monica and Venice have yet another “edgy” and “eclectic” eatery to choose from, as the Hotel Erwin officially launched the opening of Barlo on Oct. 13.
Whatever moniker or adjective customers will ultimate associate with the new locale, management certainly hopes Barlo, the Hotel’s “ground floor counterpart to (the) High Rooftop Lounge,” will embrace the laid-back lifestyle that defines both Santa Monica and Venice.
“We wanted to provide a place for hotels guests and locals to come together for locally produced food, beer and wine, and innovative seasonal drinks,” the hotel’s General Manager Benjamin Malmquist stated. “When the fun ends at High, people can continue the party at Barlo.
Alternatively, guests can enjoy dinner at Barlo and then head to High for post-meal cocktails.”
Located just off the Venice Boardwalk, Barlo features a rotating menu for breakfast, brunch, and dinner.
Among the main themes of the restaurant’s focus include comfort, simplicity, and menu items defined by farm fresh market ingredients.
As the restaurant’s publicity team likes to label the food and style, Barlo offers “barn to the belly” dishes and drinks.
Also featured at the new eatery: a patio doubling as a locals-only living room; a communal table; graffiti artwork; and a décor defined by reclaimed wood to give an “industrial farm” look and feel.
Serving as the restaurant’s executive chef is Jason Wiggin, who “has curated a menu that evokes the diverse flavors of Venice with a touch of elegance and an emphasis on creative presentation.”
Wiggin’s acclaimed menu items include Fried Green Tomatoes, Seared Black Cod, and Bacon Carmel Corn.
A new cocktail menu created by Ryan Wingo, Hotel Erwin’s food and beverage director, include the Pimms Cornucopia and the Strawberry Mule.
Barlo is located at Hotel Erwin, which is at 1697 Pacific Avenue in Venice.
