Daylight Saving Time Ends; Sunset Now At 5 p.m. In Santa Monica:

California joined every other state in the U.S. except for Hawaii and Arizona changed their clocks today.

Daylight saving time ended at 2 a.m. this morning putting clocks back an extra hour.

This means today’s sunset in Santa Monica will be at about 5 p.m. and the days will continue to see less sunlight as winter approaches.

Every other state in the U.S. except for Hawaii and Arizona changed their backwards clocks today.

This means Phoenix is now one hour later than California, and Honolulu is now two hours earlier than California.

The reason for implementing daylight saving during the summer months is to increase the period of light during the afternoon while decreasing the hours of daylight in the mornings.

Daylight saving will return to California on March 11, 2012.
