Homeless Man Arrested At Santa Monica Beach For Challenging People To Fight: APB: Fighting Talk

On Saturday, Oct 29, at 8:40 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department went to the 2400 block of the beach regarding a man who was challenging people to fight him. Upon arrival at the beach the officers found the man in question and noticed that he was talking loudly to himself, and that the subject matter of his personal dialogue could only be described as “gibberish.”

The officers spoke with a victim who told them that the suspect had approached her and had begun to curse at her. He then lunged at her in a manner that was threatening. At that time a man had intervened and the suspect had punched this good citizen in the face for his trouble.

The suspect had walked away until the police had arrived and detained him. This 35-year-old homeless man was placed under a private person’s arrest and taken to jail where he was charged with battery upon a person. His bail was set at $20,000.

Editor’s Note: These reports are part of a regular police coverage series entitled “Alert Police Blotter” (APB), which injects some minor editorial into certain police activities in Santa Monica. Not all of the Mirror’s coverage of incidents involving police are portrayed in this manner. More serious crimes and police-related activities are regularly reported without editorial in the pages of The Santa Monica Mirror and its website, smmirror.com.
