The longest running pre-Thanksgiving food drive returns to Wokano Santa Monica this Saturday, Nov. 19, with the celebration event called “Turkey Soup 2011.”
This pre-turkey day charity bash is held to raise money for Westside Food Bank, which is responsible for helping feed the less fortunate during the holidays.
Festivities include complimentary hors d’oeuvres from 9 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and music by DJ Hapa from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Wokcano, which is one of the hottest multi-level, outdoor nightclub and restaurants on the Westside.
Tickets are just $5 in advance or $10 at the door. Alternatively, a minimum donation of five canned food items can also be donated instead of paying the cover charge.
Westside Food Bank’s mission is to distribute as much food as possible to local agencies with food assistance programs and to reduce food waste on the Westside of Los Angeles County.
As the food bank warehouse for the Westside since 1981, the non-profit annually distributes nearly four million pounds of food to the food assistance programs of 65 Westside social service agencies. They do not distribute food directly to individuals, only to agencies.
