Parking Structure 6 in Downtown Santa Monica will close for construction next month for redevelopment to increase parking from its current 342 spaces to more than 700.
It is scheduled to reopen in late 2013.
To prepare for the closing of the structure, the City of Santa Monica, Central Parking, and Downtown Santa Monica, Inc. are working together to relocate monthly public parkers to other convenient and accessible locations including the Santa Monica Civic Center and Santa Monica Main Library as part of the Interim Parking Plan.
A discounted rate was offered to existing monthly parkers who voluntarily relocated to the Civic Center location by Dec. 31, 2011.
For Structure 6 monthly parkers who did not voluntarily relocate last month, the promotional rate has now expired and standard market parking rates apply.
Monthly parkers may still be able to relocate to either the Civic Center or Main Library locations, depending on available inventory at that time until Feb. 1, 2012.
If monthly parkers choose to not relocate to either facility by Feb. 1, 2012, they will lose their current monthly parking pass and their key cards will be deactivated.
Their monthly parking will be canceled and there is no guarantee that they will be able to return to Parking Structure 6 after construction is completed.
An FAQ about monthly parking relocation is attached and can be found on the City of Santa Monica’s Parking website at www.smgov.net/parking.
