Santa Monica Pier Deck And Bridge Speed Limit Reduced:

The speed limit on the Pier Deck and Bridge is now five miles per hour.

The speed limit on the Pier Deck and Bridge was reduced from 10 miles per hour to five miles per hour.

“Staff recommends the change in speed limit to enhance safety, reduce abrasion to the Pier’s timber deck boards, and provide a consistent speed limit with the adjacent 1550 lot,” staff said.

“The areas under discussion often experience high levels of adjacent pedestrian traffic on the Pier Bridge and access way which sometimes cross the roadway. There are also frequently large numbers of pedestrians walking among cars in the deck parking lot. The slower speed would allow more reaction time and reduce stopping distance.”
