A 54-year-old Hispanic female transient was struck and killed in a crosswalk on Sunday night at the intersection of Lincoln Boulevard and Ashland Avenue in Santa Monica.
Santa Monica police officers responded to the scene at 10:30 p.m.
SMPD Sgt. Richard Lewis said the preliminary initial investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle, a 65-year-old male resident of Santa Monica, was traveling southbound on Lincoln Blvd and made a left turn onto Ashland Ave.
Lewis said the driver hit the pedestrian when she was walking northbound in the crosswalk on the east side of Lincoln Blvd.
“The pedestrian sustained major injuries and was transported to a local trauma center, where she later succumbed to her injuries in the early morning hours of July 2, 2012,” Lewis said. “The victim’s name is being withheld pending the notification of family.”
The driver of the vehicle was cooperative throughout the investigation and was determined to not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
