The St. Monica Mariners lost their first football game of the regular season against Village Christian 28-7 last Saturday but head coach Adam Guerra hopes to rebound in game two against Malibu High School.
“We were missing a lot of senior starters due to injuries and several of those guys are coming back this week,” said Guerra. “We didn’t win mainly because we played poorly on the offensive and defensive line.”
Village Christian scored once a quarter and the Mariners recovered a fumble in the third quarter for their only score of the game but where unable to capitalize in the red zone for a second score during the third quarter.
“We need improved play on both sides of the ball,” said Guerra. “We have a very talented team but we got to get those injured guys back and play tough and hard.”
The Mariners face the Malibu Sharks this Saturday at Santa Monica College starting at 7:30 p.m.
