Cops To Crack Down On Pedestrian Violations Such As Jaywalking:

Use crosswalks to avoid a jaywalking citation and increase safety on Santa Monica streets.

For the month of October, Santa Monica motor officers in addition to their normal duties, will again target pedestrian related violations.

The motor officers are from the SMPD’s Traffic Enforcement Unit that each month focus on different driving behaviors that are the primary causation for traffic collisions.

Pedestrian related incidents still occur throughout the City of Santa Monica and since January of this year, there have been 85 collisions involving pedestrians.

Several pedestrian violations that have resulted in collisions this year are:

· Jaywalking

· Walking against a red light or “Don’t Walk” symbol

· Failure to yield right-of-way to on-coming traffic

· Pedestrian in the roadway
