Committee For Racial Justice To Host Santa Monica Candidate Forum October 14:

The Committee for Racial Justice (CRJ) is set to host the “Santa Monica School Board and City Council Candidates Town Hall” this Sunday, Oct. 14 from 6–9 p.m. at the Church in Ocean Park in Santa Monica.

The Candidates Town Hall will be an opportunity for voters to meet the candidates and hear their platforms on issues important to local ethnic and progressive communities.

Moderated by former U.S. Congressional candidate Marcy Winograd, the Town Hall is an effort by the CRJ, along with the African American Parents, Students, Staff Support Group, the NAACP, and Pico Youth and Family Center.

The six candidates running for Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District and 15 Santa Monica City Council candidates have confirmed their attendance. They will weigh in on what steps are necessary to improve test scores and school climate, and how they intend to build safe, nurturing and supportive environments.

The event will also feature brief analyses of State propositions and Santa Monica’s Measure ES.

Refreshments will be served at 6 p.m. This event is free to all.
