Ziba Beauty At Fred Segal Santa Monica Offers Brow Shaping, Threading:

Truth be told, I’m not the most “dressed up” sort of gal.

I wear my hair long, and it’s lucky if it gets blow-dried or straightened. I hardly ever wear makeup. I have pierced ears, but couldn’t tell you the last time I wore earrings.

However, there are a few girl-gussy things I like to do and the first is to get my nails painted. The second is a new revelation, and that is to get my brows shaped and threaded by Glenn at Ziba Beauty.

Tucked in the corner of the Fred Segal that also houses Umami Burger, Ziba Beauty offers an array of hair removal options for all parts of your body shoulders and up. Think anything that you would get waxed – from your brows (that’s what I do) to other parts of your face, neck, and hairline (men).

But what is “threading”?

A few weeks ago I went to find out – and the skinny is that it’s less traumatizing than waxing, more effective than plucking, and overall – like being treated by the hair removal angels.

The truth is that it’s just one angel, and his name is Glenn.

Hand-plucked (pun intended) from the Vegas location and boasted as the best of the best, Glenn has been threading since he was 13.

Now somewhere in his 20s, Glenn can look at your face and tell exactly (down to the day) when the last time you waxed or plucked. He shapes your brows based on your nose, ears, and mouth. And you will never look better.

Back to threading. Basically a web of thin string that Glenn does a sort of cats-cradle with and quickly maneuvers each string to catch a hair and remove it at the follicle.

The sensation is like being lightly scraped, and it’s much less benign and less plain than waxing or plucking.

Then you have beautifully manicured brows.

The prices run $12-$15 for brows, which is cheaper than getting a waxing at a neighboring stylist.

Check it out and give Glenn a hug!
