Santa Monica police arrested a 29-year-old Sherman Oaks man on Wednesday, Feb. 27 after he was seen stealing a bike from an Ocean Park Boulevard backyard.
At 8:15 pm officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to an apartment building in the 2000 block of Ocean Park Boulevard after they had received a report about a man who had knocked on someone’s door and then stole a bicycle from the location.
When the officers arrived they spoke with the female victim who told them she had been inside her unit when she suddenly heard loud noises emanating from the breezeway located at the rear of her apartment building.
The woman had then walked into her kitchen where she was startled by the sound of someone unexpectedly knocking on her back door.
The woman then heard someone near her bedroom window, and at that moment she yelled out that she was going to call the police.
She then looked out of the window and saw a man climbing a fence while carrying a neighbor’s bicycle.
The woman then called the police, just as she had promised to do.
The officers, after hearing this recollection of events from the victim, went in search of the suspect.
It didn’t take them long – they found and detained a man fitting his description in the 2600 block of 21st Street.
After being identified by the victim, this man was arrested and charged with grand theft, and violation of probation.
Bail details were unknown at time of publication.
