Santa Monica Place was earlier this month chosen as an International Council of Shopping Centers’ VIVA “Best-of-the-Best” award winner in the Design and Development category for 2013.
“This center is an exceptional representation of the best in the industry for state of the art practices, setting it apart from the rest of the retail real estate industry,” said Michael P. Kercheval, president and CEO for ICSC. “The VIVA Best-of-the-Best Award recognizes the tremendous efforts and achievements put forth by this year’s recipients, while setting a standard for what the retail real estate industry should expect from its owners and developers.”
ICSC judges said the two-year renovation that involved converting the traditional enclosed mall into a “show stopping open-air destination” re-introduced Santa Monica Place to its market.
The ICSC award winners were announced during the VIVA Best-of-the-Best Awards ceremony which took place during RECon, ICSC’s global retail real estate convention held May 19-21 in Las Vegas.
The VIVA Best-of-the-Best award honors and recognizes the most outstanding examples of shopping center design and development, sustainability, marketing, and community service worldwide.
