Arizona State University Online recognized Santa Monica-based online student Jamie Boggs Saturday as she received an honorary game ball from mascot Sparky the Sun Devil just before kickoff at the ASU versus USC game at Sun Devil Stadium.
Boggs represents many students earning degrees from ASU while living and working in California and other locations across the country and world.
This rivalry game holds particular importance for Boggs, who chose to complete her B.S. in communications at ASU Online rather than USC because the program provided a platform that gave her the ability to balance school with work and family.
Boggs is not only a wife, mother, and full-time employee, but an exemplary student with a near 4.0 GPA.
“Being a Sun Devil means that I get to remain me: I get to be a good mom, I get to be a good employee, but I also get the quality education that I deserve,” said Boggs. “ASU treats their online students with the same integrity as students that attend in person. An online student is not a faceless number; an online student is a voice.”
Twenty-two percent of ASU Online’s student body is made up of students based in California, as ASU Online offers degree programs that students are unable to access in their home state.
ASU offers access to affordable, world-class education from wherever students are located, giving students who may not be able to attend classes in a traditional college setting the opportunity to complete their degree and progress in the workplace.
