Santa Monica police arrested a 44-year-old Santa Monica resident for knowingly buying two stolen bicycles on Friday, Oct. 4.
An officer of the Santa Monica Police Department on patrol in the 1400 block of Marine Street at 1:47 am chanced upon the man driving a truck without the headlights on.
The officer stopped this truck and the driver, instead of remaining in the car, exited and approached the officer in a suspicious fashion.
The officer took the safety precaution of making this man sit on the curb.
The officer then requested that the passenger of the vehicle (the driver’s girlfriend) follow suit, and she also sat on the curb.
The officer asked if he could look inside the truck and the driver agreed. The officer lifted a blanket in the back of the truck and discovered two bicycles.
The officer asked these two people some questions about the bicycles but they were unable to answer him.
This further aroused the suspicions of the officer and so he began to question these two (by now) suspects.
As he was doing so the girlfriend keeled over to one side and had a seizure.
This woman was thus transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The driver of the vehicle admitted that he had paid $40 for the bicycles from “some guy,” and that he knew that the “guy” had cut the locks of the bicycles.
This man was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property and possession of burglary tools.
He was subsequently released on a citation due to some medical issues.
