Nationally syndicated news magazine “America Now,” which airs weekdays on Fox 11 at 1 pm, featured a segment Nov. 11 with Santa Monica Fire Department division chief Jose Torres and co-host Bill Rancic (“The Apprentice,” “Giuliana & Bill”).

The segment discussed the four zones where car fires can start and how to take preventative measures.

If your car begins to catch fire, Chief Torres explained in the segment, “Exit the vehicle in a safe manner and call 911. If you have a fire extinguisher, go ahead and try to use that fire extinguisher to put the fire out.”

Torres said everyone should keep a car-sized fire extinguisher in the trunk of his or her car.
