Bail Set At $1 Million For Homeless Man Who Tried To Light Landlord On Fire:

A 33-year-old homeless man was arrested on an attempted homicide charge on Tuesday after throwing gasoline on a Santa Monica landlord and threatening to light him on fire.

SMPD Sgt. Jay Moroso said officers responded to the 2700 block of 2nd Street at 9:12 am regarding a resident who attempted to remove a homeless person from his condo complex garage.

“The homeless person threw gasoline on the landlord and threatened him by producing a lighter and telling the resident that he was going to light him on fire,” Moroso said. “Upon the officers arrival, the suspect fled and a perimeter was established from 3rd to 4th Street and Pier to Marine Ave and with the assistance of an LAPD air unit.”

Moroso said the suspect was not found, but later called the police and wanted the SMPD’s help in getting his belongings, that were thrown out by the victim.

“Officers met with the suspect and arrested him for attempted homicide and throwing a flammable substance on another person with the intent on injuring that person,” Moroso said.

Bail was set at $1 million for suspect Sylvester Brown.
