Intoxicated Man Arrested Near Santa Monica Pier After Causing A Nuisance:

A 35-year-old man was arrested on Sunday, July 6 after causing a public nuisance while intoxicated near the Santa Monica Pier.

Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to the area of Colorado Avenue and Second Street at 1 pm on this day in order to investigate a man who was reportedly dancing in the street and accompanying these physical gyrations with a random stream of semi-intelligible profanities punctuated by short sentences in the English language (possible a rap song?).

Upon arrival the officers observed the suspect in a verbal conflict with a woman over an item that she alleged he had stolen from her.

The officers attempted to conduct a conversation with this suspect and after a few moments accepted the futility of their efforts due to the suspect’s state of inebriation.

The suspect did manage to communicate with the officers that it was his birthday that day and that he deserved to be a happy man.

This man, whose place of residence was not known at the time of going to press, was arrested and charged with public intoxication. Bail was set at $250.

Editor’s Note: These reports are part of a regular police coverage series entitled “Alert Police Blotter” (APB), which injects some minor editorial into certain police activities in Santa Monica. Not all of The Mirror’s coverage of incidents involving police are portrayed in this manner. More serious crimes and police-related activities are regularly reported without editorial in the pages of the Santa Monica Mirror and its website, smmirror.com.
