The driver of a black Mustang led California Highway Patrol officers on a pursuit from the Inland Empire through Los Angeles County into Ventura County before a spike strip forced the car to stop at Pacific Coast Highway and Hueneme Road, a CHP officer said today.
The CHP in Los Angeles took over the pursuit at 7:13 pm Saturday on the westbound Pomona (60) Freeway in Diamond Bar, said CHP Officer Tony Polizzi.
It continued at speeds of over 100 mph onto the westbound Santa Monica (10) Freeway in Boyle Heights and went all the way to Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica then north through Malibu, Polizzi said.
The pursuit continued northbound through Malibu Canyon over the Ventura County line until the CHP deployed spike strips that damaged one of the Mustang’s tires and resulted in the driver stopping and giving up at PCH and East Hueneme Road at 8:23 pm, he said. It was near the Naval Air Station Point Mugu, according to an internet map.
The vehicle had paper license plates, Polizzi said. He did not know the initial reason for the pursuit and that information was unavailable at the CHP’s Inland Communications Center.
