Latest police, crime and courts news.

A 24-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing a Venice restaurant cook was ordered Monday to stand trial.

Jorge Nolasco is charged with murdering 24-year-old Guillermo Carmona-Perez, who was found about 12:15 a.m. on Nov. 18, 2013, near Pacific Avenue and Washington Boulevard.

Carmona-Perez, who lived in Venice, had finished up his shift as a prep and line cook at Mercede’s Grille shortly before being stabbed. He was found not far from the restaurant and died at a hospital.

The cook also held down a second job at Baja Cantina.

A cab driver told prosecutors he drove Nolasco to the site of the attack.

A motive for the fatal stabbing has not been disclosed.

Nolasco, who has remained behind bars on $1 million bail since his arrest Jan. 7, is due back in court Jan. 5 for arraignment.

If convicted, he faces a life prison sentence.
