Twisted Colossus To Open To Public Today At Six Flags Magic Mountain:

Twisted Colossus, billed as the world’s longest hybrid roller coaster, will open to the public today at Six Flags Magic Mountain.

Twisted Colossus combines the wooden structure of the original Colossus with a nearly 5,000-foot steel Iron Horse Track that provides a ride experience never before possible on wooden coasters, such as over-banked turns and inversion, according to Six Flags Magic Mountain Park President Bonnie Rabjohn.

The four-minute ride features a “Top Gun Stall,” an inversion where the train slows down upside down; a “Zero G Roll,” where the track twists 360 degrees; two lift hills; a 116-foot, 80-degree drop; and the Western Hemisphere’s first “High Five,” where two trains pass through an overbanked turn with the illusion that riders can reach out and “high five” each other.

The ride opens at 10 a.m., with Six Flags Magic Mountain planning to open the gates earlier than the 10 a.m. regular opening time to accommodate the opening day crowd.

The wooden Colossus opened on June 29, 1978, and closed Aug. 17.

Twisted Colossus is the focal point of Six Flags Magic Mountain’s newly themed Screampunk District, which includes entertainment and new food and shopping areas.

“With a broad appeal, Twisted Colossus will usher in the next generation of thrill seekers whose parents grew up riding the iconic original Colossus, keeping the coaster relevant and thriving for many generations to come,” Rabjohn said.

“And, I can promise you, this isn’t your daddy’s Colossus.”
