A 44-year-old woman died and two other people were hospitalized in critical condition after apparently overdosing on GHB, commonly known as the “club drug” or “date rape” drug, at Venice Beach just before sunrise today.
Four victims were found as firefighters and paramedics rolled up from a 4:46 a.m.”unspecified medical call” from 23rd Street at Speedway, said Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department. That location is just south of the foot of Venice Boulevard, one block inland from Ocean Front Walk
Paramedics were able to regain pulses for a 28-year-old man and 25-year- old woman, who were then taken to a hospital in critical condition, Stewart said.
The 44-year-old woman was rushed to an area hospital in full arrest, she said.
She later died at a hospital, said Los Angeles police officer Rosario Herrera of the Media Relations Section.
Homicide investigators remained at the scene, in the midst of the boisterous Venice Beach crowds, all day.
