Man Arrested After Trying To Steal Merchandise From Santa Monica Apple Store:

A Calabasas man who attempted to steal merchandise from an Apple Store in Santa Monica for a second time within a few days was arrested on Saturday, July 25.

At 10 am officers of the Santa Monica Police Department responded to the Apple Store at 1415 Third Street Promenade in order to investigate a theft report.

The officers were advised that loss prevention agents from the store had detained the suspect, and when the officers arrived at the scene they took custody of the suspect prior to speaking with the loss prevention agents.

The loss prevention agents told the officers that they had spotted the suspect enter the store that evening and that they had recognized the man from a few days prior when they had caught him concealing merchandise from the store in his pants.

They said that on this occasion they again watched the man as he selected two items from a display case and put them into his pockets. They added that they waited until the suspect had exited the store and that at that time they had apprehended him.

In addition they said that when they had first approached the man outside The Apple Store he had attempted to run away but they had stopped him and had handcuffed him after a brief scuffle.

The officers searched this individual and discovered that he was in possession of methamphetamine.

Based upon the evidence the officers arrested this 25-year-old man and he was charged with robbery, possession of a controlled substance, and a hit and run bench warrant. Bail was set at $80,000.
