UCLA Starting Defensive Back Ishmael Adams In Custody On Robbery Charge:

Latest police, crime and courts news.

UCLA starting defensive back Ishmael Adams was in custody today following his arrest on suspicion of robbery.

Adams was arrested by UCLA campus police about 3:35 a.m. Sunday, and was booked on suspicion of robbery, according to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

Adams, 21, was being held on $100,000 bail, and was tentatively scheduled to appear at the Airport Branch courthouse on Tuesday, according to the sheriff’s department.

According to UCLA’s campus newspaper the Daily Bruin, Adams was arrested for allegedly robbing an Uber driver on campus, possibly taking a cell phone.

UCLA released a statement this afternoon, saying the university is “aware of the situation and continuing to gather information. As this is a pending legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.”

Adams started all 26 games for the Bruins over the past two seasons. He returned two intercepted passes for touchdowns in 2014, tying the school record. He also scored a touchdown on a 100-yard kickoff return against Arizona State. Adams led UCLA with four interceptions in 2013.

Adams is a graduate of Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village. Adams’ father, Stefon, played defensive back for the Los Angeles Raiders, Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins from 1986-90.
