Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department responded to an unusual kind of bank robbery that had occurred at the California Bank & Trust, located at 100 Wilshire Blvd. on Friday, Sept. 18 at 4:50 pm.
Apparently, the suspect had entered the bank clothed only in a pair of pants. Once inside the bank the suspect hid his right hand behind his back and approached a teller.
The suspect had then demanded money from the teller and the teller, concerned that the suspect had a weapon concealed behind his back, handed the suspect a relatively small amount of cash.
The teller had then retreated to a safe room inside the bank. The suspect then removed his pants and exited the bank completely naked, but was spotted by the bank security guard who was standing a short distance away. The security guard then confronted the naked suspect who proceeded to punch the security guard in the face several times.
At that moment officers from the Downtown Services Section responded and arrived at the scene, and after a short foot pursuit, apprehended the naked suspect.
This 41-year-old Los Angeles resident was arrested and charged with robbery and assault. Bail was set at $100,000.
