Santa Monica Fire Department responded to a building fire yesterday. Upon arrival crews found a small 2 room apartment in the back of the structure involved in fire. Crews pulled hose into the structure and quickly extinguished a fire that had totally burned up the kitchen and a small room behind the kitchen. The truck company opened up a hole in the roof to release the heat and fire gases. This aided in the extinguishment and search of the apartment. No persons were found but a small dog that had stopped breathing was located and removed. Outside the apartment firefighter Klein with assistance from crew members revived the dog and were able to return her to her owner. Cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Fire Prevention Division.
