Town Hall with Councilmember Mike Bonin to Discuss Transitioning Los Angeles Off Fossil Fuels to 100% Renewable Energy

Santa Monica residents addressed Santa Monica Planning Commissioners on Wednesday night at a Town Hall meeting regarding the Zoning Ordinance Update – currently in a proposed “redline” form to show proposed changes – that will spell out what can be built in the city for decades.

Councilmember Mike Bonin, Food & Water Watch and several other community and environmental groups will host a discussion on the dangers of living next to fossil fuel facilities. They will also address efforts to get Los Angeles to adopt a 100% renewable energy future. Organizers will share updates on campaigns to shut down the Playa del Rey gas storage facility and stop the rebuilding of LADWP’s Scattergood power plant. Participants will hear from Porter Ranch residents living in the aftermath of the largest gas blowout in U.S. History.

The event will take place Saturday, June 17, 2017, 10:00am-12:00pm at Westchester High School Auditorium, which is located at 7400 W. Manchester Ave. The speakers are as follows:

Councilmember Mike Bonin

Alexandra Nagy, Food & Water Watch

Andrea Leon-Grossmann, Food & Water Watch

Matt Pakucko, Save Porter Ranch

Andrew Krowne, Porter Ranch Neighborhood Council
