Santa Monica Earns LA County a Reputable 8th Spot Among the 50 Priciest Zip Codes in California

If affordable living is what you’re after, California may not be the best place for you. But then again, who can put a price tag on those warmish mornings flavored with a cool ocean breeze and that laidback lifestyle that The Golden State is famous for?

Whether you want to live next door to the wealthy or just to see where housing calls for some big bucks every month, here are California’s Most Expensive ZIP Codes, a research done by RENTCafé based on data from Yardi Matrix.

If you can’t follow the link or don’t wish to, here are the key takeaways:

  • San Francisco is home to the priciest ZIP Code in California, with rents in 94129 topping $4,700/mo. Moreover, SF dominates California’s priciest rental markets list claiming 5 spots among the 10 most expensive ZIP Codes in the state.
  • Santa Monica’s red hot rental market is no joke. Rents in 90401 have reached an astounding $3,477, placing it 8th on the 50 most expensive ZIP Codes list.
  • Los Angeles doesn’t even make the top 10 list but 90007 lands the city an 11th position with rents hovering around $3,268/mo. In other words, tech beats the silver screen with L.A. only featuring 5 of the most expensive ZIP Codes in the state as opposed to SF’s 10 entries in the top 50 ranking.
  • The cheapest ZIP Code among the 50 most expensive in Cali? That would be 90291 in Venice, but its $2,768 average rent is still more than double the national average.

Quantum has secured $14.5 million in financing for a Santa Monica apartment complex.
