Santa Monica Place is getting a new rooftop restaurant from a duo who previously made their mark in the entertainment industry.
LOULOU, a French-California restaurant, will be opening soon at Santa Monica place. The restaurant and lounge will be located on the roof of the mall at suite #300, the space of the former Sonoma Wine Garden which appears to be closed.
The duo behind the new restaurant is Erik and Florence Chol, longtime players in the entertainment world. The two gained notoriety from their 2015 restoration of the Globe Theatre, a major event space in downtown Los Angeles. According to Erik Chol, the menu will include a range of dishes including lobster, octopus and fresh truffle, inspired by the French Riviera’s lifestyle. In addition, the restaurant will feature an exclusive LOULOU Cuvée.
“Santa Monica is an iconic place for all the Californian way of life,” Erik Chol told What Now Los Angeles. “We’re close to the end of the legendary Road 66 and the Santa Monica Pier offering one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world every day.”
LOULOU will be the first restaurant venture from the duo. According to Erik Chol, the eatery will also hold pop-up performances, among other events.
For decor, diners can expect candle lit trees, outdoor plants and other features to facilitate a chic, intimate experience.
The restaurant, which will likely open in the summer, will join a crowded dining scene that includes options like The Cheesecake Factory, True Food Kitchen, The Curious Palate, Johnny Rockets and more.
