The blend of heritages and cultures that make up the country have each brought something of their own to the nation, and each has something unique to bring to the table. Even if your home is already decorated, you can still include things that celebrate your heritage. There are several ways to incorporate your cultural heritage into your home.
Budget for Your Pieces
Art and cultural pieces can be expensive, so consider ways of working these purchases into your budget. Know you don’t have to get everything all at once. Spreading out your purchases over time will allow you to find the pieces that really speak to you. Still, that doesn’t mean you have to wait to look for ways to save money. A popular way of saving money each month is by refinancing student loans. By refinancing your existing debt into a new loan, you can often cut your monthly expenses down by several hundred dollars. That frees up more funds to put into art for your home.
Cultural Art
If you are trying to save money, buying things locally can help. If you can source local art or even antique pieces, you can hang them around your home to express your heritage and individuality. This allows you to put your wall space to work. You can pick pieces that show ancestors or traditional art of your culture. If you have a lot of space, you could even have a mural painted as a stunning centerpiece. This adds a bit of color to the home, and if you get locally produced pieces, you can also help the arts community.
Textiles
You can strategically place textiles in your home to honor an ancestor’s hard work. Think about family quilts, rugs, tapestries, samplers, and anything else made of fabric. Of course, older items might not be suitable for use, so you may not want to put a well-loved quilt on a bed or a rug on the floor. You could hang a quilt on a wall or purchase a blanket display rack to protect items while they are displayed.
Pieces to Work as Accents
While walls are a great area to begin, they don’t have to be the only space you show off your heritage. If you have an embroidered linen or family recipe, you can frame them and display them on an end table. Anything that has been passed down through the family can be given a place of honor in your home. If you really want your area to pop, you can use art as accent pieces. Perhaps you inherited a vase, sculpture, or another antique item. You can use it as a conversation piece in your dining room or living area.
Even if you don’t have antique pieces passed down in your family, you can still find older items online. There may also be antique shops and flea markets where you can find items to reflect your history or that of your country. When you find something that speaks to you, you can have it framed at an art shop so it is ready to display.
