She Will Oversee Dissemination of Information of City Programs, Initiatives, and Events
City Manager David White appointed Lauren Gold Howland as the City’s communications and public information manager, with her role commencing on August 14.
In this capacity, Howland will be responsible for overseeing the comprehensive dissemination of information related to City programs, initiatives, and events to both the public and staff. Additionally, she will serve as the official spokesperson for the City.
Expressing enthusiasm for the appointment, City Manager David White commented on Lauren’s potential to build upon the accomplishments of the communications team. He highlighted her extensive background and experience, emphasizing their value in implementing a robust information-sharing program to keep the Santa Monica community well-informed.
Lauren Gold Howland brings nearly a decade’s worth of experience in the field of communications for local government. Prior to her current appointment, she held the position of public information officer for Long Beach Utilities. During her tenure, Howland demonstrated her capabilities in managing the public affairs and graphic design team, acting as the primary spokesperson, devising and executing crisis communications strategies, and leading the rebranding efforts for Long Beach Utilities. Before her role in Long Beach, she served as a communications specialist for the City of Anaheim and as a public information officer for the City of San Gabriel. Her professional journey commenced as a reporter for the Pasadena Star-News, where she covered city government, human interest stories, and breaking news in Pasadena and other San Gabriel Valley cities. Notably, Howland is also bilingual, proficient in both English and Spanish.
