The Committee Plays a Crucial Role in Monitoring the Implementation of Bond Measures Funding Capital Improvement Projects at the College

Santa Monica College has opened applications for individuals interested in serving on the Citizens Bond Oversight Committee. The committee plays a crucial role in monitoring the implementation of bond measures funding capital improvement projects at the college.

Interested applicants can access the application at smc.edu/CBOC under the “Oversight Committee Applicants” heading. The deadline for submitting applications is Friday, May 24, 2024.

To be eligible for appointment, applicants must be at least 18 years old and cannot be current college employees, officials, vendors, contractors, or consultants.

Established in spring 2002 as mandated by state law, the committee initially oversaw the implementation of Measure U, a $160 million bond approved by Santa Monica-Malibu voters. Over the years, its responsibilities expanded to include oversight of subsequent bond measures, including Measure S (2004), Measure AA (2008), Measure V (2016), and Measure SMC (2022). These bonds fund various projects such as building replacements, seismic retrofitting, safety enhancements, and technology upgrades.

Final appointments to the committee will be made by the SMC Board of Trustees after reviewing all applications. For inquiries about the application process, individuals can contact Lisa Rose in the Office of the Board of Trustees at Rose_Lisa@smc.edu.

Detailed information about the committee and SMC bond projects can be found at smc.edu/CBOC.
