Eligible Residents Can Apply Online, With Recipients Selected via Three Separate Lottery Draws
Santa Monica is offering $2,000 vouchers for income-qualified residents to purchase e-bikes, bicycles, and safety equipment, including helmets, locks, and lights. The initiative, supported by an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant from the U.S. Department of Energy, aims to promote sustainable transportation in the community.
Approximately 90 vouchers are available through the program. Eligible residents can apply online, with recipients selected via three separate lottery draws on July 17, August 14, and September 10. Winners will be notified by email with instructions on how to redeem their vouchers.
Residents need to apply only once, as applications will automatically roll over to the next lottery until the final draw. Along with the voucher, recipients will receive a compilation of bike safety resources, including the League of American Bicyclists’ online Smart Cycling course.
Vouchers can be redeemed at three local bike shops: The Bike Center at 1555 2nd Street, Bike Attack Electric at 2904 Main St, and Helen’s Cycles at 2501 Broadway. It is important to note that this program is not a rebate; vouchers must be presented at the time of purchase.
“I’m thrilled to see the launch of this program that prioritizes equitable transportation solutions,” said Chief Sustainability Officer Shannon Parry in a news release. “Increasing access and encouraging active transportation options like bike riding enhances our progress toward achieving our climate goals.”
Applicants must be 18 years or older, a resident of Santa Monica, and meet income-defined criteria.
