Breaking News: Pacific Coast Highway to Close Tuesday Due to Storm Risks

Cal Trans Reverses Decision to Open the Highway to Residents This Week

After Cal Trans District 7 announced that Pacific Coast Highway would have a limited opening starting today, Cal Trans District 7 has reversed this decision due to the approaching storms.

At 6:37 p.m. on Monday night, Caltrans announced that Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) will close to residents starting Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 3:00 p.m. due to an incoming storm and the risk of mud and debris flows. The closure will extend from Chautauqua Boulevard in Los Angeles to Carbon Beach Terrace in Malibu. Pacific Palisades residents will be able to use Chautauqua Boulevard to access their homes with the appropriate passes.

Topanga Canyon Road will also be closed between PCH and Grand View Drive.

Only essential workers, including first responders, recovery agencies, and utility crews, will be permitted to travel on PCH during the closure. Officials urge residents to plan ahead, seek alternate routes, or avoid the area if possible.

Caltrans expects the closure to remain in effect until Friday, Feb. 7, when conditions will be reassessed.
