City Celebrates Construction Kickoff With Community Event and Design Unveiling
The City of Malibu will host a groundbreaking ceremony and community celebration on Friday, April 11, to mark the official start of construction on a long-anticipated skate park at Malibu Bluffs Park.
The event, which begins at 12 p.m., is open to community members, local officials, and skateboarding enthusiasts. Attendees will view the skate park’s final design renderings, enjoy complimentary refreshments, and hear remarks from Malibu Mayor Doug Stewart and Parks and Recreation Commissioner Dane Skophammer.
Located at 24250 Pacific Coast Highway at Malibu Canyon Road, the new skate park is designed for skaters of all ages and skill levels. City officials say the facility will provide a safe, modern, and inclusive space to promote active recreation, youth engagement, and community connection.
Construction of the Malibu Skate Park is scheduled to begin in April 2025 and be completed by fall 2025. The $4.1 million project is being designed by internationally renowned California Skateparks and constructed by C.S. Legacy Construction, Inc.
The final design was shaped by extensive community input through public meetings and surveys in 2020 and 2021. The park will feature a variety of street and transition-style skate elements, including stairs, rails, ledges, banks, a flow bowl, quarter pipes, a spine, extensions, and waterfalls – offering something for skaters of all levels.
The City is also exploring naming rights opportunities for the new Skate Park, with proposals expected in the coming months.
