The advisories were prompted by recent water quality tests showing bacterial levels exceeding state health standards
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health issued warnings Monday for several county beaches, including Mothers Beach in Marina Del Rey and Santa Monica Pier, advising against swimming, surfing, and playing in ocean waters due to elevated bacterial levels.
The warnings cover the entire swim area at Mothers Beach and a 100-yard stretch up and down the coast from Santa Monica Pier. Other affected areas include Avalon Beach at Catalina Island, 100 feet west of the Green Pleasure Pier; a 100-yard stretch from public restrooms at Leo Carrillo State Beach in Malibu; and a 100-yard stretch from the Pico-Kenter storm drain at Santa Monica Beach, near South Tower 20.
The advisories were prompted by recent water quality tests showing bacterial levels exceeding state health standards, the department said.
Meanwhile, a previous warning for Inner Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro was lifted after recent samples met state water quality standards.Residents can access 24-hour updates on beach conditions via the county’s beach hotline at 1-800-525-5662 or visit http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/beach for a map of impacted locations.
