Palisades Park will be the backdrop for Vamos Al Parque!, a free, family-friendly event celebrating Santa Monica’s 150th anniversary and the close of Hispanic Heritage Month on Sunday, Oct. 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event will highlight Indigenous and Latine heritage through performances, hands-on workshops, and cultural activities. Grupo Folklórico de West Los Angeles will perform an Aztec dance, while Gabrielino artist Lazaro Arvizu shares Native music and storytelling. LA VACAcicleta will host a cyanotype workshop alongside a free seed library, zines, and prints.
Yayala Ceramics will display Indigenous Oaxacan earthenware, and Maribel Reveles, known as Patchouli Nomad, will present upcycled art. Cheyenne Green, the city’s Camera Obscura Art Lab artist-in-residence, will lead a workshop using natural materials inspired by Indigenous traditions.
Attendees can enjoy craft vendors, fresh fruit bowls, and lounging areas. Mayor Lana Negrete will host a lotería game, offering gift certificates to Latine-owned local businesses as prizes.
The city invites residents, artists, nonprofits, and neighborhood groups to host their own anniversary events, with microgrants of $500 to $5,000 available. Applications are open through Nov. 10.
