On the education front, Cedars-Sinai Health Sciences University launched the nation’s first hospital-embedded PhD program in health artificial intelligence, accredited this year
Cedars-Sinai Medical Center reported significant growth in its artificial intelligence programs during 2025, deploying dozens of initiatives across patient care, research and operations under the guidance of a multidisciplinary AI council.
The hospital became the first health system to implement Aiva Nurse Assistant, a voice-dictation mobile app that allows nurses to document patient information in real time for direct entry into electronic medical records. Initially piloted on a 48-bed surgical unit, the app is now expanding throughout the medical center to reduce administrative tasks.
Another pilot, Momentum Spine, introduced radiation-free monitoring for pediatric scoliosis patients at Cedars-Sinai Guerin Children’s, tracking brace compliance and curve progression digitally to improve outcomes and cut down on office visits. Expansion is planned for 2026.
The Cedars-Sinai Connect app, which provides 24/7 virtual care, added pediatric and Spanish-language support this year. A study published in Annals of Internal Medicine found AI-generated initial recommendations for common urgent-care complaints outperformed final physician suggestions in some areas, though doctors excelled at gathering complete patient histories, according to a release from the hospital.
On the education front, Cedars-Sinai Health Sciences University launched the nation’s first hospital-embedded PhD program in health artificial intelligence, accredited this year. The National AI Campus program grew to include Los Angeles Pierce College among its partners.
Research efforts produced studies on AI applications in mental health therapy, drug safety monitoring, potential biases in psychiatric treatment recommendations and the use of synthetic data for clinical innovation.
Administratively, the hospital appointed new informatics leadership roles and trained more than 1,000 staff on AI prompting techniques, with over 6,000 users adopting an internal GPT platform.
