City partners with IndieCade on a monthlong “game jam,” encouraging residents to submit cards celebrating Santa Monica’s past, present and future
Santa Monica Cultural Affairs has launched a community game-creation project in partnership with IndieCade, inviting residents to help design a card game celebrating the city’s 150th anniversary, according to a blog post from the City of Santa Monica.
The monthlong “game jam,” running from Nov. 15 through Dec. 13, asks participants of all ages and experience levels to contribute original cards for *Santa Monica: A Game of Connections*. The project encourages residents to submit short written descriptions and images representing people, places, events or objects connected to the city’s past, present and future.
According to the city’s blog post, the final game will challenge players to form narratives by linking the submitted cards, creating new stories that reflect Santa Monica’s history and identity. City officials described the activity as suited for families, local history buffs and anyone with ties to the community.
Submissions are open through Dec. 7. Cards can be uploaded online via a city-provided form or submitted in person at Santa Monica City Hall, the Main Library and the city’s farmers markets. Organizers noted that contributions may be edited or combined.
The game will be play-tested publicly on Dec. 13 at 11 a.m. at the Miles Playhouse before being shared later that day during the city’s 150th anniversary celebration on the Third Street Promenade.
