Synchronized traffic lights now allow real-time adjustments across a key stretch of PCH

Traffic conditions along Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu are expected to improve following the completion of a major signal synchronization effort spanning a key stretch of the roadway.

City officials announced that the Pacific Coast Highway Signal Synchronization Project is now finished, marking the largest traffic infrastructure project undertaken by Malibu to date. The project coordinated 12 traffic signals between Topanga Canyon Boulevard and John Tyler Drive, allowing Caltrans to manage signal timing in real time.

Officials said the synchronized system is designed to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and discourage speeding while enhancing safety for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians traveling along the corridor. The upgrades allow traffic patterns to be monitored continuously and adjusted as conditions change.

The city will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the project’s completion at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Webb Way, near the Triangle Lot. Event parking will be available at 23835 Civic Center Way, just north of Webb Way.

Additional information about the project is available on the city’s website at MalibuCity.org/780/PCH-Signal-Synchronization.
