Overnight 405 Lane Closures Planned Through Sepulveda Pass as Topanga Canyon Road Reopens

Caltrans Schedules Overnight Work Through Friday on Interstate 405

Overnight lane reductions and ramp closures are scheduled this week along Interstate 405 through the Sepulveda Pass as Caltrans continues a major pavement rehabilitation project, transportation officials said.

The overnight work is set to begin after 9:00 p.m. Monday, January 5, and will continue nightly through early Friday, January 9, with all lanes expected to reopen by 6:00 a.m. each morning. Caltrans said drivers should expect intermittent lane and ramp closures during the overnight hours.

According to the agency, up to two northbound lanes of the 405 will be closed between Wilshire Boulevard and Skirball Center Drive, while up to one northbound lane will be reduced between Sepulveda Boulevard and Victory Boulevard. Southbound traffic may also be affected, with up to two lanes closed between Skirball Center Drive and Wilshire Boulevard.

Several ramps and freeway connectors will be impacted overnight, including Burbank Boulevard on-ramps to both directions of the 405 and U.S. 101 connectors to the northbound and southbound freeway.

The closures are part of the I-405 Pavement Rehabilitation Project, a $143.7 million effort aimed at improving safety, mobility, and pavement durability along the freeway corridor between Van Nuys and Westwood. The work includes demolition and median barrier improvements through the Sepulveda Pass.

Caltrans cautioned that schedules may change due to weather or operational conditions. Nearby residents and businesses may experience noise, vibrations, and dust during overnight construction. Motorists are encouraged to check Caltrans’ QuickMap for real-time traffic updates.

In a separate update, Caltrans announced that Topanga Canyon Boulevard has reopened following recent storm-related closures. State Route 27 between Pacific Coast Highway and Grand View Drive reopened before noon after crews cleared rockfalls and debris flows from the roadway.

While traffic has resumed, officials have stated that the area remains an active work zone as recovery efforts continue, and drivers are advised to proceed with caution.
