Local neighborhood favorites and major chains slash prices this Thursday.

Major fast-food franchises and independent Southern California eateries are launching targeted discount campaigns and food promotions this week to mark National Hamburger Day on Thursday, May 28.

Among local establishments, historic eatery Irv’s Burgers will celebrate the holiday by offering complimentary food to early visitors at its locations at 1000 S La Brea Ave, at 7998 Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood, and at 23401 Civic Center Way in Malibu. The legendary roadside stand, which debuted in 1946, will distribute a free “Roadside Single” burger to the first 50 customers at each storefront. To claim the promotion, patrons must order in person and recite the phrase “Just for me.”

In Koreatown, independent outpost Unninae K-Burger is hosting a one-day buy-one-get-one-free promotion on its signature Bulgogi Burger. The deal runs throughout the location’s standard operating hours from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at its 3438 Wilshire Boulevard storefront and is applicable for both walk-in customers and delivery orders.

Several national chains are also introducing digital and footprint-wide promotions for the holiday. Jack in the Box announced it will reduce the price of its standard hamburgers to $1 at all locations. The promotion runs from 2 p.m. until closing time on Thursday, applies to both in-store and digital orders, and carries a limit of five discounted burgers per customer.

Shake Shack is concluding a monthlong weekly promotion series by offering a complimentary signature “ShackBurger” with any digital purchase of $10 or more. Patrons must enter the promotional code “FREEBURGER” at checkout on the brand’s mobile application or website to claim the single-patty item. Shake Shack has locations in Beverly Hills, Century City, Culver City, Marina del Rey, Santa Monica, and West Hollywood.

Burger King is tying its holiday promotion to a new digital entertainment partnership. The company will award a free hamburger to members of its loyalty program who spend at least $3 through the brand’s official app or website. Additionally, members who spend $10 or more during the promotion will unlock up to four months of complimentary access to Spotify Premium.

Checkers and Rally’s will run a two-day promotion running through Thursday, offering a buy-one-get-one-free deal on their standard Classic Burger models at participating locations.

Arby’s is also participating in the holiday marketing push despite its traditional focus on non-hamburger options. The chain is offering a buy-one-get-one-free promotion on several of its core menu items, including its classic roast beef, beef and cheddar, and crispy chicken sandwiches.
