The police tracked the suspect to Los Angeles, launching a vehicle pursuit that ended in gunfire.
Santa Monica police officers opened fire at the termination of a pre-dawn vehicle pursuit in South Los Angeles early Monday morning, concluding a multi-agency tracking operation tied to an ongoing kidnapping investigation.
Personnel from the Santa Monica Police Department located the wanted suspect within Los Angeles city limits at approximately 3:15 a.m. The suspect immediately fled from authorities in a vehicle, triggering a high-speed pursuit that came to a halt in the area of 937 W. 85th Street, where the officer-involved shooting occurred.
The suspect was taken into custody at the scene immediately following the gunfire. According to an SMPD press release, no officers were harmed in the incident, and no gunshot injuries were reported.
The adult victim at the center of the abduction probe had already been secured by law enforcement prior to the chase and was not inside the vehicle or present during the shooting.
Investigators from the SMPD are currently coordinating with outside law enforcement agencies as the active investigation continues.
