Sweet Laurel opened its flagship store in Palisades Village in 2018 and built a strong following across West Los Angeles. Its products, including the best-selling chocolate caramel cake.
Sweet Laurel, the popular gluten-free, grain-free and dairy-free bakery known for serving West Los Angeles residents, has no plans to reopen in Pacific Palisades and has closed its Santa Monica pickup location, the business told Mirror Media Group.
In response to a press inquiry about its post-wildfire recovery plans, Sweet Laurel said it will continue operating through nationwide shipping. Customers can place orders directly through the bakery’s website for delivery. The business currently offers a limited selection of cakes and hopes to expand its offerings in the coming months.
The announcement comes more than a year after devastating wildfires displaced numerous families across Los Angeles County. In May 2025, Sweet Laurel assisted affected residents by delivering baked goods and donating replacement cookbooks through its “Sweet Laurel Drops” program and partnerships with delivery services.
The bakery, co-founded by Laurel Gallucci and Claire Thomas, first gained attention after Gallucci was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease, an autoimmune disorder that forced her to overhaul her diet. Eliminating gluten, grains, dairy and refined sugar, she began creating desserts that became popular among friends and eventually led to the launch of an online business and workshops.
